God wants us to be sanctified 2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 1 John 1:6-7 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. While justification is an essential part of salvation, God wants more for us than to just have our sins cleansed. Through sanctification, we are changed to be like Jesus. This process gives us the will to act, speak, and even think like Jesus. When He sanctifies us through His Spirit, sins that once overpowered us will become less and less desirable. Eventually, we will no longer want to do those sins. Praise God that he changes our very hearts!
