Jesus as an example
.
1 Peter 2:21-23  For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously

Hebrews 2:16-18  For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Dictionary.com defines the word "example" as, a pattern or model, as of something to be imitated or avoided, and, an instance serving for illustration; specimen.  If Jesus is to be our example of who to imitate, He needs to be like us in every way.  If He is to be our illustration, He had to live the life that we live.

Adam is not an example for us.  When he was created, he was made without any sin, perfect in every way.  On the other hand, Jesus knew what sin was, and the dangers of it.  He came in the likeness of sinful flesh and all of the physical infirmities that come with it.  If Jesus had any advantage over us that we do not have, then He could not be our savior.  Jesus had to come with our fallen nature, not Adam's unfallen one.  Because of this, He is the example that we follow for our own lives.
